Release of 'Shibboleth'                                                                                                      1st September 2003
We are delighted to announce that the third Thieves' Kitchen CD, 'Shibboleth', is now available for pre-ordering and will be available from September 1st, 2003. The new album is the first to feature new vocalist Amy Darby and consists of six tracks...

The Picture Slave - De Profundis - Cardinal Red - Chovihani Rise - Spiral Bound - Surface Tension

The album demonstrates our most diverse work yet - from the laid-back cool jazz of 'De Profundis' to the speedy, breathless 'The Picture Slave' - from the grandiose epic that is 'Chovihani Rise' to the gentle acoustic 'Spiral Bound' - and from the rock-out of 'Surface Tension' to the intricate complexity of 'Cardinal Red' - this is an album of which we are very proud. More ambitious than 'Head' yet not as dark as 'Argot', it perfectly melds the band's penchant for tortuous time signatures with very strong melodic content. We feel sure you'll be similarly impressed!

Belgium gig confirmed, 'Shibboleth' speeding on!                                                               29th June 2003
Greetings! Things are really moving at speed now with the new album 'Shibboleth'. Drums, bass and vocals are now in place, and the keyboards and guitars are well on their way. We're still looking at a mid/late August release date, if all goes to plan.

Now that the vocals and thus the lyrics are in place, we have the expected titles for the six songs - although we're still not yet set on a definite running order. The epic 24 minuter has been christened 'Chovihani Rise'. The two short ones (both under six minutes!) are the breakneck 'The Picture Slave' and 'Cardinal Red'. The similarly short but acoustic 'ballad' is now known as 'Spiral Bound'. As for the two 'medium' (~13 minute) length tracks - these are the cool, jazzy 'De Profundis' and the rock-out which is 'Surface Tension'.

We'll be posting news soon about pre-ordering the album for the earliest possible dispatch. More from us very soon - watch this space!

We've also confirmed our first gig for later in 2003, which will also entail our first trip to Europe. We'll be at Spirit of '66 in Verviers, Belgium on Saturday December 20th. Again, there'll be more news and details nearer the time.

'Shibboleth' well under way!                                                                                                     12th June 2003
Thanks for bearing with us! We're delighted to report that things are now moving along apace with the new CD - both Mark and Andy in the rhythm department have done their stuff, and keyboardmeister Wolfgang moves into the spotlight this coming weekend.

We hope to be on target for a release in mid August, if all goes to plan. Watch this space for more information as that time moves closer - we also hope to have some more details on track titles and stuff for you soon, plus a look at the new cover.

We're very proud of the way the new stuff is coming along, and can't wait to present it to you later in the summer!

A slight delay on the new album                                                                                               13th April 2003
Although writing for the new album is long since complete, we've been forced to extent the schedule just a bit. As none of us can unfortunately afford to be full-time musicians, it means we have to fit in all the homework and rehearsal amongst the myriad other things going on in our lives - and hey, this stuff is DIFFICULT - wait till you hear it!

We're now planning to begin recording towards the back end of May, with a projected release date of mid August for 'Shibboleth'.

From the epic length and trickery of the as yet unnamed 'PM27' to the acoustic delicacy of what we currently call 'Confront' - from the warm, floating grooves of 'De Profundis' to the rock-out that is provisionally titled 'The Cat' - not forgetting the manic 5 minuter currently affectionately known as simply 'Jazz Rock Mayhem' - this will definitely be our most diverse album to date. It's looking far more complex and jazzy than 'Head', but not as dark as 'Argot' - and with plenty of surprises in store too!

Watch this space as we commence recording and get closer to bringing the new CD to you... and thanks for bearing with us!
